Race Timer

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: August 2026

1. Acceptance

By downloading or using Race Timer, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. The service

Race Timer is a free app for iOS and Android that times riders down a stretch of trail. One person starts a timer at the top, another stops it at the bottom, and a server we operate at timer.himon.dev works out the difference. A session and everything recorded in it is deleted one week after the last time anything was recorded in it. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the app or the server at any time, with or without notice.

3. Accuracy, and what the times mean

Two people with two thumbs are the measuring instrument here. Reaction time alone is worth roughly three tenths of a second, so the app shows times to a tenth and never claims better. It corrects for the difference between your phones' clocks, and it tells you when it is less sure of a time, but it cannot correct for how quickly somebody presses a button.

Race Timer is not a certified timing system. Do not use it for official results, prize giving, qualification, record attempts, or anything else where the number has to stand up. It is for settling arguments in a car park.

4. Riding safely

Mountain biking carries real risk of serious injury. Nothing in this app is an instruction or an encouragement to ride beyond your ability, to ride a trail you do not know, or to take a risk you would not otherwise take. You are responsible for your own safety, for the equipment you ride, for the condition of the trail, and for having permission to be on it. We accept no liability for injury, damage, or loss arising from riding.

5. Session codes and access

A session is identified by a six character code. Anyone holding that code can see the rider names and times in it and can export them, which is what makes joining a session possible without anybody signing up for anything. Share a code only with people you are happy to have that access.

Anyone who has joined a session can record times in it and can reset it, which clears every time in it. Deleting a session outright can only be done by the device that created it. Resetting is the one action in the app that destroys times permanently, so read what it says before confirming.

6. What you type in

Rider names, rider numbers and session names are free text and are entirely up to you. Whatever you type is visible to everyone else in the same session and appears in any export or shared image made from it. You are responsible for what you enter. Do not enter names that are offensive or impersonating, and think before entering somebody's full name.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Race Timer to:

  • Harass, abuse, or harm other people.
  • Enter, guess, or attempt to enumerate session codes that were not shared with you.
  • Interfere with or falsify times recorded by other people.
  • Reverse-engineer, modify, or redistribute the app without authorisation.
  • Probe or attack our server infrastructure.

8. Age requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use Race Timer. Because the app holds no accounts and deletes everything a week after the last activity, there are no additional restrictions related to children's use.

9. Disclaimers

Race Timer is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we do not guarantee that any particular time will be recorded. Times may be lost through connection failures, a phone running out of battery, a session expiring, a session being reset, or a mistake at either end of the trail. Use the app at your own risk, and export anything you want to keep.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Race Timer and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to the loss of recorded times or the inability to record or connect. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

11. Intellectual property

The Race Timer app, including its design, code, and assets, is the property of its developer. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the app without explicit written permission. The times you record are yours.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or on this page. Continued use of Race Timer after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
